IN CLASS: Each day students receive a mini lesson focusing on a different aspect of the writing craft, then spend time honing writing, brainstorming story possibilities with one another, and polishing their stories.
CURRENT PROJECT: Students are working on a draft of a short story, tentatively titled "A Wish Gone Wrong." Over the past few weeks, we have been examining short stories and the various elements and techniques that make us like (or dislike) a story. Each of these elements is incorporated into an original work of creative fiction.
EXTRA HELP: I am available each day after school for any student needing assistance on any assignments.
UP NEXT: During the end of February and the beginning of March, we will have two units: Poetry and Technical Writing.
HOMEWORK: Reading Letters are due on Thurs/Fri. (depending on which day of blocking it is). See student assignment notebooks for specifics.
The short story is due the 16th/17th of Feb., depending on block. See student assignment notebooks for specifics.
Our team name, Trailblazers, evokes the excitement of exploring our world. Students learn about U.S. and NY history. We are lucky to live in Plattsburgh, where we have such a wealth of important national history and beautiful nature surrounding us.
